Between 1940 and 1941, an AV2 Marking used on the airmails. There are two different types. I show two covers here representing each type, hope more collectors would be aware of this scarce markings on the cover. Have fun!
Murray Heifetz published a book "O.A.T. and A.V.2 Markings" a few years ago, it would be a good reference for you if you are interesting to collect related markings.作者: 假师爷 时间: 2015-4-30 12:30
The first cover with Murray's Type5 AV2 Marking on it. This Marking was recorded to be used from Dec.27, 1940 to Oct. 31, 1941. It is used in Hong Kong. Most are used in 1941 and large part on the India-USA covers.
The Marking on this cover is a little different from the Marking shows in Murray's book. It shows rectangle frame around A.V.2. Do not know if it is a variety or not.
By 2006 (when the book was published), only two covers recorded with used in 1940, 158 covers recorded with used in 1941. Most Frequent Usage is India-USA which has 65 covers.作者: 假师爷 时间: 2015-4-30 12:45
The second cover shows Type 5a. The difference is that "2" is curved in this Marking.
The earliest recorded usage is: Sept. 25, 1941, the latest recorded usage is: Nov. 26, 1941.
In Murray's book, only 21 covers recorded or seen at that time. About 9 covers from China to USA.
The cover I show here is the latest recorded use. The letter was lucky to be carried on the last clipper flew to USA.作者: hart 时间: 2015-4-30 12:52
Thanks Hart for sharing your information, wish other collectors can also share their collections or information.
We can see AV2 frequently on Ebay or other auctions, the AV2 itself with normal date is not too expensive.作者: 麦国培 时间: 2015-4-30 14:09
