'Hawke'" at Woosung (2.4) bearing C.I.P. ½c., cancelled by "Nanking" bilingual c.d.s., returned to Nanking (4.4) via Shanghai (3-4.4) and then back to Shanghai (5.4) where 1904 Postage Due Waterlow printing 5c. (foxed perf.) applied and tied by "Shanghai" bilingual c.d.s. (7.4) to pay the 2½c. deficiency of postage plus fine (i.e., double postage due), showing on front handstruck "T" with manuscript endorsements of postage due and redirection. Chan D11.

(22.4) on front, showing on reverse "Peking/Letter Box/No. 16" circular h.s., "Shanghai" bilingual transit c.d.s. (21.4), "Tuticorin" transit c.d.s. (9.5) and "Calcutta G.P.O." arrival c.d.s., very fine and almost certainly the unique example of a complete pane with these varieties used on a commercial cover. Chan 167, a, b.
