先请您看看卖家的说明Very rare and original, Confederate States of America President Jefferson Davis Autograph Notation written on a Postally Used Cover addressed to Davis from Confederate Civil War Colonel / General and the first Superintendent of the Virginia Military Institute General Francis Henney Smith.
The Manuscript Notation was written on this Envelope before Jeff Davis filed it with his papers and documents and the note simply identifies the sender (only the Envelope is present not the original letter). The Envelope measures approx. 5 1/2" by 3 1/4" and has a pre-printed return address for the Virginia Military Institute. It is addressed to Jefferson Davis at Memphis, Tennessee. The Postmark is dated August 27 (no year stipulated)..
Davis writes the following notation on the end of the Cover:
"Genl. F. H. Smith."
There is also a notation in another unknown hand that reads "Historical".
Francis Henney Smith (October 18, 1812–March 21, 1890) was an American military officer, mathematician and educator. After graduating from West Point and a brief service in the United States Army, he became the first Superintendent of the Virginia Military Institute on its establishment in 1839, and held that post until shortly before his death. His superintendency included the four years of the American Civil War, during which he served as a major general in the Virginia militia and a colonel in the Confederate States Army.
The Autograph Notation written by former Confederate States of America President Jefferson Davis is 100%, unconditionally guaranteed original and backed by our “no questions asked” return policy and lifetime guarantee of authenticity. The Notation is unconditionally guaranteed to be deemed authentic by any third party authentication service and the Cover will be accompanied by our own Letter of Authenticity with a statement of our unconditional return policy and guarantee of authenticity.
This rare and original, Autographed Notation is in very good condition. The Envelope is complete and neatly opened at the flap without damage. There is some toning and soiling to the Envelope as can be seen in the scans below. The Manuscript Notation written by Jefferson Davis is dark and bold and very attractive. Again we stress that this Manuscript Notation is unconditionally guaranteed original and in the hand of former Confederate States of America President Jefferson Davis.
